We at General Metal take every precaution to make sure your project is completed correctly and on-time. There is a lot of information needed for each job. Having all this data will help us help you! It will speed the processing, programming, and production of your parts.
Our lead times are generally calculated from the time we receive the purchase order and all of the listed information, so the faster we receive all of the necessary detail, the faster we can start and complete your project.
If, by chance, there are any changes to a part or to an order, please call us as soon as possible. Then, also confirm the instructions in writing. There are a number of other people besides customer service who need to know all of the same instructions and it is better if they see the instructions directly from the customer.
Some of this information is standard, and some of the information should be found on the blue prints, but it is also helpful to have it clarified on the purchase order.
This list is to be used as guideline. There are exceptions, if you have any specific questions, please call Customer Service at (215) 638-3242.
Company name, billing and shipping addresses, phone and fax numbers, and contact person
Order date
Delivery date(s)
Part numbers, revision levels and quantities
If the rev level has changed from what was quoted or from a repeat order, make sure we have current prints. We need up-to-date drawings before any work can begin
If you call in the purchase order, please send a copy in writing (via email, fax, or mail). We cannot process an order until we receive the purchase order in writing.
If you fax over a purchase order, please call to confirm receipt
List any expectations or special directions (e.g., prototype, sample parts prior to production, parts manufactured less finish or hardware), or finishes not specified on blue prints (special deburring notes, plating color, or powder coating or liquid paint color)
List any special materials, is material supplied?
Are any certifications required?
Is there any tooling involved or any other miscellaneous charges?
If there is silk screening, we should have a blue print showing the location of the screen on the part and the ink color. We also need the artwork, by graphics file or photo-positive (emulsion up). Please Note: CAD files are NOT artwork files. CAD files do not convert well into the graphics programs, the fonts and sizes of objects change (If you do not have the artwork in a photo-positive or graphics file, it will have to be made from scratch).
